Currently in France, it is estimated the number of Alzheimer’s patients to 800,000 people. As medicine progresses on the subject, there would still be two thirds of undiagnosed patients. And the longer the lifespan increases, the more the forms of dementia follow the curve.
Recently, Inserm researchers demonstrated that Alzheimer’s disease was not systematically marked by memory loss. In all, there are about ten signs suggestive of the disease, such as language disorders, mood and personality changes, orientation disorders, anxiety, executive function disorders, to which has recently been added the loss of smell.
Correcting certain daily habits
Individual susceptibility to disease has a genetic componentsince the risk of developing the disease is on average multiplied by 1.5 if a first-degree relative is affected, and by 2 if at least two are affected. But the disease is also triggered and aggravated by environmental factors and daily habits. Violent shocks to the head, too fatty food, lack of physical activity, sleep disorders, overweight… can be part of the risk factors.
Conversely, certain habits (such as swimming in cold water, saying stop smoking or even adopting the Mediterranean diet) could have a protective effect against neurological disorders.
