The risk of allergy to grass pollens is maximum throughout France, alert the RNSA in its latest bulletin.
The beautiful days are coming… and allergies are on the increase. In his last allergo-pollen bulletin, the RNSA (National Aerobiological Surveillance Network), draws attention to the allergic risk to grass pollens, described as “maximum”.
“Grass pollens establish their domination”
“Grass pollens will be the revelation of the latter Roland Garros,” write the authors of the bulletin, spinning the metaphor. Between forehands or backhands, at the net or from the baseline, grass pollens are establishing their dominance and will impose themselves like next week’s pollen ”.
The maximum alert, which should extend over several days, concerns almost all the departments of France. Grasses are plants that are usually found in meadows, on rocks, in forests, in water, ditches and road shoulders, etc. A low concentration of grasses sufficient to trigger an allergy, they have a very high allergenic potential. The season runs from March to September, with a dominant peak in June when temperatures rise, leading to overproduction of pollen. Which is the case right now, then.
But grasses won’t be the only pollens to spread through the air. “As good doubles players, the urticaceae team share the field, the players on the Mediterranean coast and Corsica with an average allergic risk, and the nettles on the rest of the territory with a very low allergic risk”.
Allergies on the rise
In France, according to the National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (ANSES), around 30% of the adult population and 20% of children suffer from allergies to pollen. Figures in constant progression for 20 years.
Allergies mainly affect the nose, lungs, eyes and skin. They are most often manifested by strong sneezing, runny nose, tearing, redness and itching. In the most severe cases, the allergy can lead to asthma, rhinitis or conjunctivitis.
