Against all expectations, a study from an American university affirms that a single minute of sport, but intensive, is as beneficial as doing more classic sport, taking your time.
Sport: Lack of time is no longer an excuse
To reach this conclusion, researchers at McMaster University observed the effect of sport on 27 guinea pigs, sedentary, not particularly athletic, for 12 weeks.
A group was submitted to very short sprint sessions, three times twenty seconds, interspersed with two minutes of exercise bike at normal pace. The whole thing was preceded by two minutes of warm-up, and three minutes of slow walking at the end, to recover from the sprints. Total: 10 minutes.
Another group did 45 minutes of exercise bike at a reasonable pace, preceded and followed by the same warm-up and cool-down.
1 minute of intense effort as effective as 3/4 of an hour of training?
The results, after these two weeks, surprised the researchers: both groups had derived as much benefit from these workouts, either intense but brief, or more moderate but over time.
The conclusion of the study is unstoppable: the excuse of not having enough time to play sports no longer holds. Even an intense effort, but short, is beneficial to the organism, allows to drain the toxins which accumulate in the organism and to oxygenate the cells. We also deduce that all physical activities, even brief ones, as long as they are intense, are profitable! Think about it by slipping under the duvet tonight …
