Subaru is preparing the renewal of its XV, a compact SUV derived from the Impreza. Its next generation promises to be more robust visually, more high-tech in its equipment and, above all, more electrified mechanically.
Subaru is somewhat in a hurry by the evolution of environmental regulations, particularly in Europe where the Japanese manufacturer must quickly reduce the CO2 emissions of its range if it wants to avoid heavy fines. He is therefore already preparing a new generation of the Impreza under the code name CH2. The future compact is expected in early 2023, when it will go into production according to my information. It will be declined like its predecessors in XV (named Crosstrek in North America), a C-segment SUV on which the firm could bet heavily commercially. We can already get an idea of what it will look like, a camouflaged prototype having recently been filmed on the road.
A more assertive Subaru XV
The next Subaru XV will show an even more “adventurer” look than its predecessor, in order to position itself more as a pure and hard SUV than as a raised compact visually. As a source of inspiration, he will take the 2019 Viziv Adrenaline concept car.
We can expect to find refined front optical units giving it a sharp “look”, linked by a chrome ring crossing an enlarged and lowered grille. Daytime running lights “C” should renew the front light signature of the vehicle. The rear lights will take this shape, and a black band could take place between them. On the sills, the black protections should be as impressive as on the current generation. The folds and other reliefs should be even more numerous on the body. The passenger compartment will be modernized through the integration of a larger central screen, the reduction in the number of buttons, and the arrival of a digital instrument cluster.
A more consistent hybridization at Subaru
The Subaru XV is currently offered with us with a choice of a 1.6 petrol engine with 114 hp or a 2.0 hybrid e-Boxer combining 150 thermal hp and 17 electric hp. On the next generation, in Europe at least, Subaru could ignore the 100% thermal and offer greater electrification on the e-Boxer model. The manufacturer could take advantage of its partnership with Toyota, drawing the electrified part of the mechanics from the giant of the archipelago while keeping the flat engine and all-wheel drive that are its DNA. The latter makes the XV one of the few SUVs in its segment capable of evolving off-road. However, these technical elements remain to be confirmed. The production start of the next Subaru XV is expected in July 2023.
