Making an appointment with the dentist or with the ophthalmologist is becoming more and more complicated for many French people. This is what the barometer reveals Ipsos / Popular relief, which takes stock, each year, on the issue of precariousness in France.
Produced in July 2016 with 1,000 participants, this tenth edition is mainly devoted to access to health and reveals a feeling of growing charity among the majority of French people.
Thus, 68% of participants believe that inequalities in access to health are at their highest and nearly 40%, or a third of those polled, admit having had to I experienced poverty, which is 3 points more than the previous year.
Health, the first affected by the crisis
Dental prosthesis, glasses or contact lenses … Part of the population has to do without them to end the month without a hitch. Indeed, half of the French who belong to a household whose net monthly income is less than 1,200 euros have already given up or postponed a consultation with the dentist, a jump of 22 points compared to 2008, and almost 4 in 10 did so with an ophthalmologist appointment.
Among the most modest, 64% of French say they have already encountered difficulties when paying for medical acts poorly reimbursed by the Social Security. In addition, 53% of these modest households believe that having a mutual health insurance is financially complicated today. Worse, almost half of them say they cannot afford healthy food!

A growing fear of precariousness
The French fear the future for themselves as for their loved ones. More than one in two (55%) believe that their daily life is threatened by poverty. It is a little less than last year but all the same 10 points more than before the economic crisis, in 2007 (45%).
An anxiety-provoking situation that motivates 83% of respondents, a large majority, to consider the risks for their children of experiencing a situation of poverty much higher than for their generation.
In addition, “women are more affected (39%) than men in matters of precariousness”, indicates the association: “precarious jobs, suffered part-time work, unemployment: these last They are paying a heavy price for the crisis but also for the persistent gender inequalities “.
Workers are also among the most exposed categories.
Asked about the actions carried out by Secours Populaire in the field of access to health, the French are nonetheless convinced of the importance of focusing the action of the association on access to care for children. Thus, 95% of them think it should be a priority.
