64% of French people have suffered from back or joint pain in the past twelve months, and these pains have an impact on all dimensions of their personal and professional life as revealed by Opinionway, in a survey conducted for the French Chiropractic Association , on the occasion of World Spine Day, October 16, 2020. A survey that provided an update on the level of knowledge that the French have about chiropractic.
- 54% of French people say they know chiropractic : with better knowledge among those over 65 (72%) and among those who have suffered from back pain or painful episodes several times over the past 12 months (64%).
- 61% ignore chiropractic reimbursement : However, more and more mutual insurance companies and complementary health insurance companies are reimbursing part or all of the session. Depending on the mutual, this is a global amount per year, or an amount per session.
Back pain: an impact on sleep
According to the survey, the quality of sleep and the performance of daily life tasks are the two aspects of daily life most affected by French people who have suffered from back pain or painful episodes in the joints. “In fact, we meet many people during consultations who express difficulty sleeping properly. Some are embarrassed during the night and even wake up, thus considerably disturbing the quality of sleep. Difficulties felt more among women and people between 50 and 64 years old, but seniors are not spared: 76% of people over 65 say they suffer from back pain and joint pain. Audrey Yargui, chiropractor and vice-president of the Association Française de Chiropraxie, notes that with the increase in life expectancy, her colleagues are increasingly confronted with the chronic pain of seniors in demand for autonomy and comfort of life.
What is chiropractic?
The object of chiropractic is the detection, treatment and prevention of dysfunctions of the skeleton and its consequences, in particular in the spine and limbs, which result in particular in pain or limitation of movement. It is mainly based on the acts of spinal manipulation, spinal adjustment maneuver and joint mobilization. Chiropractors are the only non-medical therapists authorized to perform spinal manipulations without prior medical advice.
