More than a quarter of the French give up healthcare for lack of money. A start-up in Montpellier offers companies to help them with the Chèque Santé, “Ticket Restaurant” health version.
After Restaurant Tickets, Holiday Checks, Health Check. This is the innovative idea of a start-up in Montpellier (Hérault), Care Labs, spotted by our colleagues from Parisian (subscribers link). The concept is simple: companies offer their employees a sum dedicated to medical or paramedical expenses.
158 euros per year
More than one in four French people give up healthcare for lack of money. Care Labs offers a solution: companies, works councils and mutuals can offer a Health Check, for an annual amount of 158 euros. 40,000 employees should benefit from it in 2015, hopes Vincent Daffourd, interviewed by The Parisian.
How it works ? The company or mutual company orders a “checkbook” intended for employees or members. It can be a prepaid card or an application that can be downloaded from the AppStore (phones running iOS) or GooglePlay (phones running Android).
The beneficiary of the Health Check can pay for medical or paramedical services which are not covered by Social Security or complementary health insurance. This resolves, at least in part, the problem of the remainder of the charge. Businesses are exempt from social charges.
50 accessible specialties
For the moment 10,000 healthcare professionals have subscribed to Chèque Santé. Virtually all health-related specialties are accessible: homeopathy, dietetics and even sport. It is up to the beneficiary to choose. “For the moment, we have listed 50 specialties accessible with our checkbook. We intervene each time as a third party payment. This means for the beneficiary: no advance on costs, ”explains Vincent Daffourd in the columns of the Parisian.
The interest is real for companies, argues Care Labs, citing a study by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work. For every euro invested in staff health, 13 are returned to the company. A system long accepted by Anglo-Saxons, where well-being at work is taken very seriously.
