Not content with confirming the arrival in 2025 of a new 100% electric Renault 4, the diamond manufacturer announces a utility version of it, which could use the Express name already crossed on the Kangoo. It must be produced in France from the end of 2024.
No more rumors, leaks and more teasers who did not say their name! Renault has just formalized the upcoming return of the 4L to the catalog with a new, 100% electric model, positioned in the B segment and bearing the code name 4ever. The development of this revisited Renault 4 was an open secret, but the manufacturer had kept a surprise under the elbow: the first illustration of a utility version.
The typical silhouette of the Express
On the profile view published by Renault, we recognize the unhooked flag characteristic of the 4L Van and the first Express, with raised headroom for cargo space. The 1985 van was based on the Renault Supercinq. The small battery-powered van will be derived from the future 4L, and not from the future electric Renault 5, if we rely on the identical profiles of the two silhouettes up to the central pillars.
The electric R4 Express in 2024
Like the tourism model, the future Renault 4 utility will be produced in the north of France, within the ElectriCity cluster either in Douai or Maubeuge (the decision has not yet been taken). It will be based on the CMF-BEV platform and will be equipped with a battery produced in the future plant of the Chinese manufacturer Envison, in Douai.
This installation, as well as the materials used for the accumulators and the economies of scale provided, among other things, should enable Renault to reduce its production costs in order to offer “zero emission” vehicles at more competitive prices. The electric Renault 4 Express is expected at the end of 2024, ie a few months before the version dedicated to individuals.
