To help anxious and claustrophobic people on the underground, the London transport company, Transport of London, just published a menu which indicates which underground stations have the longest tunnels. Of the 270 London Underground stations, more than half are outside. Two lines are entirely underground, so it is not impossible to adapt your route to avoid going “underground”. The new design highlights, by means of an overlay of gray, the stations which could be problematic.
Reconciling the claustrophobic and the metro
Rather than avoiding them altogether, the London transport company hopes that claustrophobic people or anxious will find the desire to use public transport. “Making the metro network accessible to everyone is one of our top priorities. This new map is just one of the tools we’ve created in response to user feedback on how we can make the metro more accessible transport network, more pleasant and comfortable journeys for them “explains Mark Evers, Director of Customer Strategy at Transport of London.
This is not the first initiative that Transport of London is putting in place to facilitate travel by transport. A few months ago, the company set up badges where it says “Please Offer Me a Seat” to help disabled travelers and those with hidden illnesses find a seat.
