After securing the future of its Spanish factories in March 2021, Renault is tackling that of its French production units. The group has thus opened negotiations with the unions to find a social agreement for the period 2022-2024. As announced, Luca de Meo wants to put “made in France” back at the heart of the company’s strategy, notably through the development of electric vehicles.

Subject to an agreement with the unions, the Renault group intends to assign nine vehicles (eight Renault and one Alpine), the majority of which are 100% electric, in French factories. The pillar of this strategy remains the Electricity pole (Douai-Maubeuge-Ruitz) which will see the establishment of a battery factory on the Douai site by Chinese Envision.

The Douai site will produce the Mégane E-Tech Electric, which will be marketed in March 2022 and then an electric compact SUV (HCB project) in 2023, both on the new CMF EV platform. To this will be added the R5 E-Tech Electric, whose CMF-B EV base and the new Envision battery will allow it to be displayed from € 20,000. An internal document, which we obtained, specifies that the Douai plant will also produce their derivatives. In this case the small Alpine which will take over a large part of the R5 but will be distinguished by specific bodywork elements (hood, wings, shields) and a 220 hp engine.
The Maubeuge factory which produces the new Kangoo (as well as the Mercedes Classe T / Citan and the Nissan NV250) will also take care of the electric version in 2022 and the Grand Kangoo in 2023.

Renault also evokes “another future vehicle” for which it has not yet decided whether it will be produced in Douai or Maubeuge. The vehicle in question is none other than the future R4 Electric which will be available in two versions in 2025: crossover and van.
The new Master confirmed
For its part, the Sandouville plant will switch to electrification with the EV version of the Trafic restyled in 2022. The manufacturer also confirms that the Batilly site will produce the new generation of the Master in 2024 as well as a clone, namely the Nissan NV 400.
