Pampers is the market leader in baby diapers. This is why the Santé Environnement France association wanted to carefully analyze the composition of these products worn by millions of children.
2 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons identified
Can we imagine that the diapers that our little ones wear every day and every night are dangerous for their health? In any case, this is what a study led by Asef (association Santé Environnement France) and the eco-friendly diaper company Love and Green suggests. According to this work, highlighted by the Parisian, Pampers diapers would contain, in low doses, petroleum products considered carcinogenic by the European Union.
The independent laboratory which carried out the analyzes in fact identified very low levels of benzo anthracene and chrysene, two polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), used by the manufacturer so that the diaper does not irritate the baby’s bottom. However, it is important to stress that the rates detected are low, and even below the maximum thresholds authorized by the EU.
Long-term harmful effects?
For Ludivine Ferrer, director of Asef, the presence of these substances is worrying, even in small doses, because these components are ” in contact with the private parts of our children 11:30 p.m. on 24 hours “. According to her, it could be that these products cause harmful effects in the long term: “ If the effect were immediate, producers would have changed their manufacturing methods a long time ago “.
And to add: ” It’s legal, but leaving even a few traces of dangerous components in this way is morally too much, especially since manufacturers are not obliged to add these chemical elements! “. Asef, which advocates the precautionary principle, has already convinced two maternity hospitals in Bouches-du-Rhône to use from 2017 100% organic diapers, guaranteed without chemicals.
