Continental presents a concept of Combi T2 designed for autonomous driving. It is designed for rest or work, and its instrumentation disappears when not needed. Its interior is dressed in natural or recycled materials. Discovery of this restomod van exhibited in Munich.
Even more than to manufacturers, the Munich Motor Show which has just opened its doors gives pride of place to equipment manufacturers. Continental presents a Volkswagen Combi T2 named AMBIENC3, modernized and fitted out for the era of autonomous vehicles, halfway between restomod and concept car. Its interior is designed for relaxation and work as much as for driving.
The Combi goes green
The first thing that we notice on board the concept is the warm and natural atmosphere provided by the colors and materials. Wood rubs shoulders with recycled fabrics in an ecological perspective. In addition, the smoothness of the surfaces and the lightness of the textiles contribute to reducing the vehicle’s carbon footprint thanks to a contained weight. Nothing is said about the engine, but maintaining the gear lever suggests that the Combi has retained its original petrol mechanics.

A cabin dedicated to relaxation
The driver’s seat is the only one in the front. Next to him has been installed a mattress that can be folded in half. Behind, there is a bench and an armchair side by side. A coffee maker has been installed between the front and rear compartments of the vehicle.
Distributed on flat surfaces, such as touchpads and screens, the controls and information can become completely invisible when the engine is off, which promotes relaxation on board. We notice in passing the Volkswagen ID-style dashboard. According to Continental, this system could very soon be found on production vehicles. For the rest, the concepts presented on board the AMBIENC3 should reappear more discreetly among manufacturers with whom the supplier works from across the Rhine.
