Those in charge of the pharmacy at the Ville-Evrard psychiatric hospital noticed that 45,000 boxes of drugs had disappeared. Theft or poor inventory management, the investigation has been launched.
45,000 boxes of medication missing! This is the observation made at the end of last week by the pharmacy managers of the Ville-Evrard hospital, specializing in psychiatry, in Neuilly-sur-Marne (Seine-Saint-Denis). Following this discovery, an investigation was opened on Monday, January 13.
2,000 boxes of Levothyrox have disappeared
According to daily information The Parisian, among these boxes of drugs that have flown from the hospital, we find in particular Valium, Lexomil and Doliprane. More surprisingly, nearly 2,000 boxes of Levothyrox, a drug prescribed to 3 million French people to regulate their thyroid, have disappeared from the shelves of the hospital pharmacy. A disturbing absence when one remembers that the Drug Safety Agency (ANSM) had reported in late July and early August “supply tensions” on all doses of Levothyrox, due to a general increase in demand.
For this reason, a source close to the investigation contacted by the regional daily confides: “The thief or thieves of all of these drugs have undoubtedly supplied a parallel resale sector. All means are engaged to trace these thieves ”.
Another track mentioned by another source close to the case, that of the poor management of the stock of drugs over a long period.
The hospital files a complaint
Pending the first conclusions of the investigation, the management of the hospital confirmed “to have immediately filed a complaint” after the discovery of these thefts. The Ville-Evrard hospital is one of the largest hospitals in France. 2,400 employees and around 240 doctors work there.
