Because I really don’t like most fish, I eat a sandwich every day, fairly thinly topped with smoked trout and every now and then shrimp. But I doubt whether this is sufficient in the context of the so healthy fatty fish?
Wilma Koghee, dietitian:
Fish come in many varieties and flavors and you clearly have your favourites, which are smoked trout and prawns. Both the smoked trout and the shrimp belong to the moderately fatty fish. The really fatty species are, for example, salmon, herring and mackerel.
The guidelines ‘healthy food choice’ recommend eating 200 grams of fish per week, of which oily fish should be eaten once a week. The average daily consumption of fish is then 30 grams.
Well, the health effects of a daily consumption of 30 grams of smoked trout has of course not yet been studied. But it’s not my preference.
Freshness and preparation are important with fish. For example, do you buy smoked trout fresh or prepackaged and how do you deal with this? Smoked fish that is kept in the refrigerator can contain listeria bacteria. So pay close attention to the best-before date and do not store the fish in the refrigerator for more than two days after opening.
In short, your fish consumption is lower than recommended and I would advise you to continue your exploration of tasty fish. It might be a good idea for you to surf to www.tijdvoorvis.nl There you will find tasty and healthy recipes and a lot of information.
