Four months ago I fell and sprained my right wrist. Nothing is broken – the X-rays show – but I’m still in pain. The doctor only recommends a strong wristband. Are there creams that help? And does physiotherapy or rest help? I am a woman of 79 and would like to keep my own house and garden, but what is wisdom? How long will this nasty little thing bother me?
In a sprain, no bones are broken, but ligaments are stretched or torn. After a sprain, the pain can persist because there is more space in the ligaments. ‘The whole thing’ can no longer be kept together properly. As a result, there is a risk of overloading other tires.
To prevent that, you can indeed wear a sturdy wristband. In the meantime, you can proceed with light work carefully. Creams will not help. If the tires are definitely stretched, rest will not matter much (anymore). You may want to ask a physical therapist if there is any noticeable change in the anatomy of your wrist. And yes… how long this will last, I don’t know. Unfortunately, you will always suffer from some damage.
