A new sub-variant is taking over in the USA: the HV.1 mutation has become dominant on American soil, according to the latest data published by the authorities.
- The HV.1 variant has become dominant in the USA.
- It is a mutation of the EG.5 variant, which comes from XBB, itself from the Omicron variant.
- While there is still little data on this variant, American experts believe that covid-19 vaccines will be effective against the sub-variant.
A new variant of the Covid-19called HV.1, mounted in power in the USA, to the point of surpassing the EG sub-variant.5 until then dominant.
Covid variant: H V.1 takes over USA
According to latest report published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on October 27, 2023, the HV variant.1 represents approximately 25% of cases of Covid-19 infections in the United States, compared to only 1% of contaminations at the beginning of August.
For comparison, the EG subvariant.5 – also known as Eris- recorded less than 22% of cases at the end of October compared to 24% at the start of the month. This rapid increase in cases of infection leave alone think that HV.1 is very contagious.
Experts clarified that the HV variant.1 is a mutation of the EG variant.5Who goes down himself from XBBa form of Omicron. Given its fairly recent appearance on American soil, they still have little data on the HV variant.1. However, so far they have not noticed any significant differences in the symptoms of the disease. They are similar to those of Covid-19: cough, fever, breathing difficulties, fatigue…
Furthermore, although HV.1 seems “very transmissible”, American scientists specify that it does not seem to cause a more serious form than other variants in circulation. There has been no significant increase in hospitalizations since its ramp-up.
HV variant.1 : does the vaccine work?
Asked by NBC News, THE Dr.Dan Barouchdirector of the Center for Virology and Vaccine Research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston explained: “I would expect it to have a slight increase in transmissibility or immune evasion, which is why it seems to dominate. It changesthe vaccine booster recommendations so far? Probably not”.
Indeed, vaccination campaigns should not be foiled by the mutation, according to experts. “Overall, these newer variants are very closely linked to the mutation XBB.1.5 who is in the [booster] put currently up to date (from Pfizer and ModernaEditor’s note)“indicated the Pr David Montefioriimmunologist at Duke University School of Medicine, at Health.
“At this stage, I don’t think any of the variants we are currently experiencing require action. [de santé] additional compared to those that people already practice”, added the scientist. That is to say respect for barrier gestures and vaccination.
