Beautiful with good protection
Of course you want sunglasses that look good, but it is more important that you choose one that offers the eyes the right protection against UV rays and that is tailored to your situation.
If you only want to protect your eyes from harmful sun rays, cheap glasses are just as good as expensive ones. The only condition is that it protects against harmful ultraviolet radiation. These glasses bear the mention UV-400, a quality mark of the European Union. This means that such glasses block all UV rays. There are also situations in which you can opt for special sunglasses, which offer just that little bit extra.
Under the sunbed
It may not be real sun, but UV rays are also in the light of the tanning bed present. So wear sunglasses here too. There are special little ‘swimming goggles’ available, which prevent a white mask on your face and still spare your eyes.
On the sports field
For example, when you play golf or tennis, it can be difficult to keep your eye on the ball. There are glasses that increase the contrast so that you can better distinguish the ball. It is best to choose glasses with unbreakable lenses (polycarbonate) and a plastic frame. When you get a blow to your eye, don’t be afraid to get bits of glass in your eye.
In the mountains
The higher up in the air, the more concentrated the UV light is. The air is thinner there, so that the rays do not scatter well and therefore remain very focused. Not just with to ski, but also high in the mountains without snow you have to protect your eyes. Preferably choose glasses that completely enclose the eyes, so that no light from above can fall behind the glasses, or through the sides. A cap with a peak also sometimes helps.
On or by the water
Due to the reflection on the water surface, the amount of UV light increases. That’s why you burn so quickly on it water. Snow also has this effect. Then choose Polaroid glasses. They have a polarizing filter that reduces glare.
In the car
Don’t be dazzled in the car prevents many accidents. However, glasses that are too dark can also cause problems, especially when you start to overlook brake lights and small details. Choose orange-brown lenses for more contrast, possibly also Polaroid lenses if you don’t have a laminated windscreen in your car.
In and around the house
Are you the type who often forgets his sunglasses or do you not want to take extra glasses with you? Then opt for self-tinting, phototropic sunglasses. It lights up when there is UV light and returns to its bright color as soon as the sun disappears or you are back indoors. This way you can wear your sunglasses all day long.
Pay attention: you cannot use these sunglasses in the car. Glass (and therefore also your car window) naturally blocks a large part of the UV light, so the glasses only discolour a little behind glass.
