WhatsApp users on Android are now able to transfer their entire chat history to iOS, the iPhone’s operating system.
Previously, it was only possible to transfer chats from iOS to Android, or of course from iOS to iOS or Android to Android. People often do this when they get a new phone.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of parent company Meta, announces this news via Facebook† With the functionality, WhatsApp solves a known problem that users sometimes encountered when they decided to hand in their Android for an iPhone.

Transferring your chats will only work if you set up a brand new iPhone or factory reset an iPhone first. You also need to use the Move to iOS app that Apple released for Android users, which can be downloaded from Google Play†
With that app it is already possible to transfer things such as contacts, calendar items and text messages from the old to the new smartphone.
While setting up the new iPhone, you need to select the option to transfer the Android data. When the iPhone is set up and ready, you can open WhatsApp and enter your phone number. If all is well, your chat history will appear on the screen.
You need at least Android 5.0 and iOS 15.5 for this. If you already have an existing chat history on your iPhone, it will disappear when you transfer your Android chats.
