Eczema or atopic dermatitis affects approximately 2.5 million people in France, adults and children. It is a complex disease that combines a skin abnormality and a very reactive immune system. It often develops in families where there is already an allergy (we then speak of atopic family background).
What can be done when the skin itches
• Water is the best skin rebalancing agent. Spray thermal spring water or moisturize with a compress soaked in salt water with unrefined salt (Himalayan salt type). skin and soothes itching.
• Sprinkle the skin with white or green clay powder. This promotes healing and soothes redness.
• In case of eczema, it is advisable to take showers rather than baths. But several times a month, take an oatmeal bath anyway. Oats have emollient, calming and soothing properties in case of irritated or itchy skin.
- The homemade recipe : infuse 250 g of oat flakes in a liter of hot water, filter and pour this milky water into the bath. Stay there for 10 to 15 minutes.
- The plain version : buy packets of colloidal oatmeal powder in organic stores and pour into warm (but not too hot) bath water.
What you can do to moisturize the skin
Eczema is characterized by alternating inflammatory flare-ups and periods of remission during which the skin remains dry and irritable. It is therefore necessary to provide it with lipids and water to restore the skin barrier and limit flare-ups.
• Every day, a few drops of borage, calendula or avocado oil, rich in essential fatty acids, on eczema-prone areas to help maintain hydration.
• Aloe vera is an excellent emollient that promotes the healing of eczema patches.
- The homemade recipe : in a bottle, mix 50% aloe vera gel with 50% oily calendula macerate. Shake this mixture well before each application to emulsify it well. Store this mixture away from light and heat and use it within 3 weeks of making it.
