Many major YouTube channels complain about the amount of spam in the comments below their videos. That is why the platform now decides to do something about it.
In addition, a number of people who leave a comment under a video try to scam someone else. Think of scams related to crypto coins, free credits in the popular game Roblox or supplements that promise all kinds of health improvements.
YouTube has a spam problem
In addition, other accounts sometimes pretend to be large YouTube accounts. They promise great things when users email them or click on a link that points to a website outside the video streaming service.
It’s not that YouTube doesn’t do anything with it at all. For example, in the fourth quarter of 2021, the company deleted more than 950 million comments that did not follow the guidelines. This is done on the basis of an algorithm, but also because employees monitor the system.
And since December, the video website has been testing a stricter response system, famous YouTuber Marques Brownlee said on Twitter know† Responses that are potentially unacceptable are more likely to be picked up by the system.
Because online scams come in many forms and spread at a rapid pace, YouTube needs to be on top of it. And it looks like the company is capable of that, especially with the wider rollout of this new algorithm. YouTubers hope the new system will at least give them some breathing room so they don’t have to deal with this all the time.
