While we were rather expecting to see them land on future restyled versions, the new “Estrema” special series of the Giulia and Stelvio have already been unveiled. They come to be located under the Quadrifoglio, in a new range reduced to two levels of finish.
Remember: a few weeks ago, The argus showed you some shots of a Stelvio sporting Estrema logos. The Italian SUV was then photographed with make-up on the headlights. This new version therefore seemed to have to accompany the imminent restyling of the model, expected for this summer. But finally, Alfa Romeo decided to introduce it in the range from April, before carrying out this facelift. Without forgetting to benefit from it the Giulia wagon, built on the same Giorgio platform. So, really extreme, this new special series? You will see that the word is perhaps a bit strong…
A (big) notch below the Quadrifoglio
The objective is indeed not to take over from the powerful Giulia GTA and GTAm, of which the 500 copies planned sold out very quickly. Much more reasonable, this “Estrema” (“extreme” in Italian) variant will not be entitled to a V6 derived from that of the Quadrifoglio, even if the premises of the Alfa Romeo Formula 1 team have been chosen. to get it started. It must be satisfied with four-cylinder turbo known for a long time, a 2.0 gasoline 280 hp and a 2.2 diesel 210 hp. With an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive imposed, both on the four-door sedan and on the SUV. To justify its name, this special series, available both in Europe and on other markets, relies in particular on the presence of a real self-locking differential, previously reserved for the Veloce. While adaptive suspension is also standard, as on the Quadrifoglio.
But it is above all the presentation that explains the name of these Giulia and Stelvio Estrema. On the outside, the V of the grille and the mirrors receive a carbon fiber veneer, while the specific badges, brake calipers and rims are dressed in a dark color. The wheels are also in 19 inch format on the Giulia and 21 inch on the Stelvio. In the passenger compartment, there is a layer of carbon in different places: storm doors, around the gear lever… The seats are also heavily blacked out by adorning themselves with Alcantara, a material with a strong sporting connotation. Finally, red stitching is responsible for bringing a touch of color in this rather dark atmosphere.
A range reduced to two finishes
Apart from this new special series and the Quadrifoglio, only two finishes now remain in the Giulia and Stelvio range: Super and Ti. The old Sprint and Veloce levels become simple packs. Pricing for this revamped lineup is coming soon, and we’ll update them. Remember that a revaluation of the equipment and prices of these two models had already taken place at the beginning of the year. But in any case, it will be necessary to prepare to see them evolve again quite quickly, with the arrival of the restyled versions and their look inspired by the Tonale.
