For 2 months, five companies with more than 200 employees have been chosen to participate in an experiment. They all have the particularity of having a absenteeism abnormal by more than 20%. In order to make employers more aware of work-related risks, the Health Insurance has decided to provide them with statistical data concerning work stoppagesof their employees.
Three categories of stops
Health insurance communicated to employers the number of days off work that their company was counting, as well as the reasons for these stops. Only three categories were selected: psychosocial disorders, musculoskeletal disorders and low back pain. All “common stoppages” such as a viral illness or a sprain, as well as long-term illnesses, such as diabetes, were not kept, because they are not linked to poor working conditions.
Health Insurance also claims to respect medical secrecy since all data is anonymous and the choice of large companies with many employees was made in order to avoid identification. The ultimate goal is to implement actions to improve the working conditions of employees and thus reduce the rate of absenteeism. A first assessment will take place in 6 months. If it works, Health Insurance will extend this system to more companies, starting with around 40 in 2018, then 200 each year.
