Who has never dreamed of being paid to do nothing? Better, get paid to stay lying down! If you are tempted by the experience, know that the Institute of Medicine and Spatial Physiology, Medes, in Toulouse, is recruiting volunteers to spend 60 days in bed. The goal is to observe the reaction of the body in conditions of weightlessness, that is to say without gravity. Here, researchers want to study the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of a dietary supplement. This research will then be used to monitor the health status of astronauts in space.
In the meantime, it is on Earth that the experiments take place. Participants will spend 14 days hospitalized in traditional conditions in order to carry out all the basic measures. Then, for the next 60 days, they will have to stay in bed at -6° of inclination, that is to say with their head slightly lower than their feet. The price to pay for simulating the microgravity conditions of space. Finally, for two more weeks, the scientists will study the recovery of the volunteers and perform post-bed measurements.
Recruitment: healthy men
If the experience tempts you, know that Medes is recruiting until May 31, but under conditions: you must be a man, be between 20 and 45 years old, be in very good health, non-smoker and athletic. No allergies or dietary restrictions for the volunteers, who will be paid up to 16,000 euros over 4 years. What makes you want to advance science…
