Stop eating meat, say goodbye to summer barbecue barbaques, give up the rare steak that delights carnivores so much… Not easy! Especially for the pleasure of taste. If there are currently alternatives, in particular based on soy, the compensation remains rather bland. But the brand Beyond Meat has created a steak that mimics beef, what is it worth from a health point of view?
Beyond Meat’s steak is made from vegan plants, does not contain gluten or soy. But in its composition, we do not find only “good” products. While it is advisable to consume foods with a maximum of 5 ingredients on the label, guaranteeing not to be too “processed”, the famous steak has 18.
What ingredients does it contain?
In its weekend edition, Le Parisien had a great chef study the thing, who underlines the presence of numerous additives. Aroma, stabilizers, emulsifiers, potassium chloride or even maltodextrin. Incomprehensible ingredients that it is good to avoid in your diet in general. Furthermore, the product contains 16% pea protein, which is an emerging allergen in children.
Also, the Beyond Burger is a bit of a ecological nonsense… It is made from peas that come from France, but the product is assembled in the United States, before ending up in our French supermarkets. In short, a hell of a carbon footprint!
