The hangover comes later
Headaches, nausea and a dry mouth? Sometimes you have a very pleasant evening and therefore don’t pay attention to how much you drink. The next morning you can be very bothered by it. There are all kinds of myths about what the best cure is for a hangover…
1. Just drink it again the next morning
This is a very popular myth, especially among students. It also seems to work for a while, but the hangover just come a little later. A better solution is lemonade, juice or sports drink. It is good to drink something that also contains sugars. Sports drinks are best because they contain valuable minerals and contain salts.
2. Take a paracetamol before going to sleep
Many people recommend using a paracetamol to take before going to sleep so that you wake up without a headache. But there are two problems with this: the means and the time. When you go to sleep, your liver still working hard to process all the alcohol. The paracetamol you throw on top of that is therefore a bit too much for your liver. Paracetamol is then broken down in a different way than normal, releasing toxic substances.
It is therefore better to take ibuprofen. It is best to wait until you wake up before taking it, unless you plan to sleep less than four hours. By the way, sleeping a lot is good for your body. It needs the rest to all alcohol to process. If you take one or two pills when you get up, you will be completely pain-free an hour later.
3. Eating some food before going to sleep absorbs alcohol and reduces your hangover
This is also not true. Eating before drinking can absorb alcohol and thus delay its absorption. Fat and protein-rich foods work best for this.
You can still try to drink one or two glasses of water before going to sleep. This helps prevent dehydration. Some people also recommend taking a vitamin supplement with it. Preferably one with a good amount of B vitamins.
4. If you both weigh the same, you can also have the same amount of alcohol
How much alcohol is required to get drunk or get a hangover depends on many factors. The most important thing is your gender. Women really can tolerate less alcohol than men. First, they have less water in their bodies, making the alcohol less diluted. Second, men have a more efficient system for breaking down alcohol already in the stomach.
5. Wine is healthier than beer
Various studies have shown that red wine can also be very healthy. A glass of red wine daily would help heart and vascular disease and cancer. But if you drink so much that it gives you a hangover, it is of course not good anymore.
To prevent hangovers, beer is often a better choice than wine. Red wine contains tannins, which can cause headaches. Beer has also been shown to have a number of beneficial effects on your health. It would help against Alzheimer’s and osteoporosis.
