Christmas and New Year’s Day festivities are often synonymous with excess. Anthony Yeung, American fitness expert, gives several tips to stay in top shape during the holidays.
- The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends performing moderate-intensity endurance activity for 150 to 300 minutes per week in order to be in good health.
- To be in good shape, it is recommended to drink one to two liters of water a day.
It’s not always easy to eat healthy and exercise during this busy holiday time of year. In an interview with the American magazine Eat this, not ThatFitness expert Anthony Yeung shared his recommendations for staying in shape during the winter holidays.
Stay hydrated, eat light… fitness tips for the holiday season
First recommendation: make sure you are hydrated. It is advisable to drink one to two liters of water a day to be sufficiently hydrated. “Staying hydrated is one of the simplest things you can do for your health and fitness, especially if you’re traveling on vacation. Drink enough water so that your urine is light yellow in color”, said the coach. A little tip for drinking enough during the day: keep a filled water bottle close to you.
We know that Christmas meals are generally high in fat and sugar. To avoid liver attacks, also eat more digestible foods such as fresh vegetables, whole carbohydrates and lean meats.
Sleep between 7 and 9 hours a night to keep fit
During his interview, Anthony Yeung also recalled the importance of physical exercise. It is not easy to do sports sessions during the holidays, but it is essential to exercise. So you can stretch your legs during a family walk or bike ride.
In addition to diet and exercise, sleep is a factor that promotes well-being. Take advantage of the holidays to rest and start the new year on a good footing. For an adult, it is recommended to sleep between seven and nine hours per night.
As a reminder, the end-of-year celebrations are above all an opportunity to treat yourself. The objective is to enjoy with family and/or friends and above all not to deprive yourself. “Fitness is a lifelong quest (…) Get back to your normal routine right away after the holidays, and you won’t have to stress”, reassured the American expert.
