In anticipation of the cold season, many of us take dietary supplement cures. Problem: in pharmacies, drugstores and on the internet, the offer is colossal… How do you know which are the right supplements to take before autumn to get through the winter peacefully?
Stock up on vitamins and antioxidants before winter
Exactly: interviewed by our British colleagues from L’Express, Riya Lakhani-Kanji (a nutritionist affiliated in particular with the Nutravita brand) revealed which are the 4 essential food supplements:
- Vitamin D. The nutritionist recommends taking a 10 microgram vitamin D supplement starting in October. This vitamin, naturally produced by the body when exposed to the sun’s rays, is necessarily lacking in winter, which is one of the causes of seasonal depression.
- Black elderberries. Without specifying the dosage, the nutritionist advises consuming it in the fall (in the form of juice, for example) to stay in shape. Black elderberries (Sambucus nigra) are very rich in antioxidants. According to some studies, they also have antiviral and antibacterial properties.
- Vitamin C. Again, no precise dosage. The nutritionist simply notes that vitamin C is a must in autumn-winter to support the work of the immune system. Lemon juice and (in general) citrus fruits are naturally rich in vitamin C: no reason to deprive yourself of it!
- Garlic. In the form of a food supplement, garlic is a recognized antiviral and antibacterial substance; this aromatic also contributes to the proper functioning of the immune system. Of course, we can start by using it in the kitchen…
Attention ! Although these food supplements are mainly of natural origin, this does not mean that they are without health risks! Before supplementing with anything, it is imperative that you seek medical advice. Indeed, certain substances can interact with each other, harm health in the event of chronic disease (pathology of the kidneys, liver, digestive system, etc.) and compromise the effectiveness of long-term drug treatment. No question of improvising with your health!
