To fight against violence against women with disabilities, the association “Femmes pour le Dire, Femmes pour Agir” is launching a single call number in France. The line will be available from March 8.
Sexually assaulted, raped, victims of psychological violence… Women with disabilities are an “easy” and destitute target. In France, this violence is massive. 4 out of 5 women with disabilities experience violence, according to a report from the UN and the High Council for Equality between Women and Men.
The day after International Women’s Rights Day, which will take place on March 8, the association “Femmes pour le Dire, Femmes pour Agir” will provide disabled women with a telephone number: 01 40 47 06 06 It will be used to “listen, accompany, support any woman victim of violence”, writes Maudy Piot, the president of the association, on the association’s website.
Every Monday from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., they will be able to find an attentive ear and denounce the violence to the ten people trained to respond. Two part-time psychologists will be there to support the volunteers.
But more than listening, this call number wants to help women acquire more autonomy. For those who wish, they can meet the volunteers and participate in a “Beauty & well-being” workshop with a socio-esthetician. Those who wish to can take part in talk groups led by a psychologist, “Employment and work” workshops led by a Hanploi professional. “Everything is done so that these disabled women can repair themselves, by regaining their self-esteem and the courage to move forward,” explains the association.
Unique platform in France
Inaugurated on March 6 in the premises of the National Assembly, the telephone listening platform, “Écoute Violences Femmes Handicapées”, unique in France, is an important step in helping these women. “It is a great day for all disabled women who, in the dark, in isolation, often in their family environment, are mistreated, abused,” says Maudy Piot.
For all people who witness or suffer from a situation of mistreatment of an elderly, disabled or vulnerable person, there is another national platform, the 3977. Interlocutors answer from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 7 pm.
