We are talking more and more about “clean” cosmetic formulas, that is to say free of ingredients that are harmful to our health and the planet. Here are some of them often present in hair products.
Silicones
They are derived from petrochemicals. Used for their immediate shiny effect on the fiber, they weigh down the hair and suffocate the scalp. Hair quickly becomes oily after using a product containing silicones.
They are pollutants for the planet. Their names are dimethicone Or cyclopentasiloxane and therefore usually end in -one and -oxane.
Sulphates
Used in shampoos as foaming agents, they tend to irritate the skin and be too detergent for the scalp. Their name contains the word “sulphate” (sodium laureth sulphate, ammonium lauryl sulphate, etc.).
There are surfactants based on coconut and sugar that are much softer and just as effective.
Some preservatives
THE phenoxyethanolTHE parabensTHE methylisothiazolinone (or MIT) are often used to preserve hair products. The first two are reputed to be endocrine disruptors (they can unnecessarily stimulate hormone receptors). The last is allergenic and may irritate the skin. It can cause itching, eczema or other dermatitis.
