Friday June 14, a high school student from 1st ES educated at the private high school Sasserno in Nice, died of lightning meningitis, reveals nice morning.
The type of meningitis she would have contracted would be “purpura fulminans probably due to an invasive meningococcal infection” explains the Provence-Alpes-Côté d’Azur regional health agency (ARS Paca).
High school students and teachers are in shock over this news. The regional health agency explained in a press release, taking all necessary measures to prevent the spread of the disease. People who have been in contact with the girl have been put on antibiotics.
Watch out for the signs
An information note has been distributed to parents of students to explain the signs to look out for: these invasive meningococcal infections can result in fever, headache, stiff neck, vomiting, discomfort with light (photophobia) or the appearance of spots on the body. »
Most of the time, contamination does not lead to severe infection. This type of reaction with such complications would concern only one inhabitant per 100,000 each year. That said, at the approach of one of the signs stated above, the regional health agency advises to consult a doctor quickly.
