According to a study published in the journal JAMA Oncology, half of cancer deaths could be avoided thanks to a healthy lifestyle: no tobacco, no alcohol, a balanced diet and regular physical activity.
40% to 60% reduction in risk of developing cancer
We are told it all day long: ” Smoking kills “; ” Alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health, consume in moderation “; ” Eat 5 fruits and vegetables a day “; ” Get regular physical activity »… We know it and today, a study reveals that putting in place these good reflexes on a daily basis would reduce the risk of developing cancer by 40% to 60%. As for the risk of dying from cancer, it is reduced by half.
According to the researchers, tobacco consumption should not exceed the 5 packages per year ; alcohol consumption should not exceed daily drink for women and two drinks for men. Weight side, body mass index must be between 18.5 and 27.5. As for physical activity, it should not be less than 75 minutes per week.
Significant results in both men and women
The authors of the report reveal that if women do not meet these 4 criteria, they increase the risk of developing cancer by 25% and 48% the risk of dying from it. If we look at breast cancer, in particular, with a healthy lifestyle, women reduce their risk of dying from it by 12%. Men are not spared: if they do not follow these recommendations, they increase the risk of developing cancer by 30%. and 44% the risk of death.
The number of nnew cancer cases detected in France is estimated at 385,000 in 2015: 211,000 for men and 174,000 for women. The number of cancer deaths was 149,500 in 2015: 84,100 among men (down from 2012) and 65,400 among women (up from 2012).
