Man was infected with Zika in South America
The woman who contracted the virus had not been to any country affected by the epidemic. His partner had traveled to South America between April and May 2016, and his infection with the Zika virus was confirmed upon his return to Spain. Health services also said the woman was not pregnant when she was infected. Last May, Spain reported a case of Zika-related microcephaly in a fetus, in Catalonia.
Two months of condom after a trip to an epidemic zone
Zika virus is spread mainly through bites of the tiger mosquito of the Aedes genus, but several cases of sexual contamination have been identified on the American continent and in Europe. Given the risks of epidemics associated with such an infection, the World Health Organization recommends the use of condoms for any sexual intercourse up to two months after travel to a Zika affected area, namely South America, Central America and the West Indies.
