Confirmed by the Minister Delegate for Transport Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, the videotaping in the ZFE (Low Emission Zone) of Greater Paris should have come into force at the end of this year. The Drivers’ Defense League announces that this will ultimately not be the case.
Here is a welcome respite for the 244,000 owners of vehicles theoretically prohibited from driving in the ZFE of Greater Paris. Since the 1er June 2021, Crit’Air 4 and more vehicles (diesel registered before 1er January 2001 and gasoline before 1er January 1997) no longer have the right to travel from week to day in this area, delimited by the perimeter of the A86 motorway (grouping together 79 municipalities).
But the League for the Defense of Drivers informs us through a press release that the video over-marking planned for Crit’Air 4, 5 or unclassified vehicles was finally pushed back until further notice.
Video surveillance not yet ready
The decision not to penalize users with an unsuitable sticker (Crit’Air 4 and above) is more or less constrained: the project to identify prohibited cars using a camera has indeed been delayed and would not be operational before 2023.
As recalled The Drivers’ Defense League, this postponement of the fateful date offers a little respite to the “forgotten people of the ecological transition”, whose budget is too tight and makes it difficult to buy a newer vehicle. And this, despite the implementation of conversion bonuses until June 30, 2022.
What is maintained
Although the automatic sanctions are postponed without a fixed date, the physical checks are maintained. Beyond December 31, 2021, educational checks (for people with a Crit ‘air 4, 5 or unclassified sticker) remain relevant and may lead to a fine in the event of sticker defect Crit’air:
- Flat-rate fine of 68 euros for light vehicles.
- Fixed fine of 135 euros for heavy goods vehicles.
As a reminder, Crit’Air 3 vehicles will be banned from central Paris in July 2022. Crit’Air 2 will also be banned in January 2024.
