On March 22, 2022, Elon Musk inaugurated the new Tesla factory on site. The first in Europe, located not far from Berlin airport, which will be used to produce the Model Y for the old continent. The entire manufacturing process was filmed using a drone. Let yourself be guided !
Like a snub to premium manufacturers, Elon Musk therefore decided to install his 4and Gigafactory (in addition to the Fremont factory) in Germany. This should supply the vehicles to Europe in order to reduce the ever-longer delivery times. For the moment confined to Model Y, the factory will welcome the production of Model 3 as soon as possible.
become the greatest
The CEO of Tesla has the means of his ambitions, in every sense of the word. Its desire to set up close to high-potential markets (Nordic countries, Germany, etc.) came true in record time. Indeed, the Berlin factory was announced in November 2019 and work began in the spring of 2020. Less than two years later, a black Model Y rolled off the production line, ready for delivery.
This European Gigafactory project is, as often with Musk, out of the ordinary. The land already extends over nearly 300 hectares and the production plant alone occupies 227,000 m². By way of comparison, it is 50 hectares more than the Renault factory in Douai. This complex, when fully operational, should allow an annual production of 500,000 vehicles.
Among the other areas of activity, there are workshops and test laboratories for the production of battery cells. Tesla is also planning a recycling unit for them. The manufacturer claims that this Gigafactory in Berlin will eventually become the largest electric car factory in Europe.

An express virtual tour
On the occasion of this celebration of March 22, a drone traveled the main buildings of the factory. The video was not made public but eventually ended up on Twitter (see below).

Here is a brief summary of the different services. The drone begins its journey in a warehouse of various parts, ready to be introduced into the assembly line. He then moves towards the stamping area where we see the presses and the robots at work. The whole system is obviously automated. The paint shop with the famous “bathtub” in which the body is dipped is also filmed.
The visit continues in the installation area of accessories and other specific interior rooms, requiring human intervention. The quality service follows suit, even if it is objectively not the strong point of the American firm. The drone then flies between Model Ys being manufactured until it leaves the Berlin factory. An overview makes it possible to realize the extent of the complex.
