Toyota is catching up with a full line-up of EVs
“Don’t mind us, we’re introducing sixteen electric models at the same time,” said Toyota. Where most brands introduce a model one by one in phases with a long teaser campaign, Toyota takes a different approach. And rightly so, because the group that for a long time did not see any benefits in cars with a plug, is catching up. Today they are showing a total of twelve electric Toyotas and four electric Lexuses. Only two of these were already known.
Next year, Toyota will launch its first fully electric production car, the bZ4X. This is also among the models. You could already fill in that Toyota could build more crossovers on the basis of this platform, but now you get a concrete impression of the plans. There will be a compact crossover, a compact SUV, a medium-sized sedan and another large SUV. The names are not yet known, but they will probably all be named with bZ.
Electric Toyota MR2?
It is logical that Toyota wants to enter the electric market with crossovers and SUVs – once that is the segment where money can be made. But Toyota has even better plans. For example, we see a small orange car that on the outside is reminiscent of the Toyota MR2 – perhaps a spiritual successor. Toyota does not want to say much about the specifications of this small car. The pictures show that it has a targa roof.
Lexus also comes with two sporty models. One is an electric coupe and the other is a thoroughbred sports car with lines reminiscent of the Supra. The 0-100 time should be around 2 seconds and the range is about 700 kilometers thanks to solid-state batteries. Lexus will develop a next-generation battery EV sports car that inherits the driving flavor, or secret sauce, of the performance cultivated through the development of the LFA.
Other fun stuff
In addition, there is an electric pick-up that is very reminiscent of the Tundra and a square off-roader that is very similar to the Land Cruiser FJ. There are also a few electric company cars. Over the next eight years, Toyota plans to introduce as many as 30 battery cars. Just scroll through the gallery above for a small impression of all the electrical stuff.
An investment of 62.5 billion euros is involved in the introduction of all electric models. By 2030, Lexus wants to sell only 100 percent electric cars in Europe, North America and China, a total of 1 million cars per year. The last fuel Lexus is to be sold worldwide by 2035.
