One in ten adults suffers from kidney disease according to the Kidney Foundation, yet many are unaware of it. In question, the delay in diagnosis in the face of these silent diseases, which give little or no visible signs for a long period. And when the signs appear, it is urgent to act: many patients die prematurely from the consequences of kidney failure or other kidney pathologies.
To remedy this and take care of patients as soon as possible, the International Foundation of Kidney Foundations is coordinating actions around the world on the occasion of World Kidney Day, organized on March 9th.
Actions all over France
In France, the FNAIR (National Federation for Aid to Renal Insufficiency) is planning numerous actions throughout the week, with first of all events to raise awareness among the general public, and free and anonymous screenings for renal insufficiency. This pathology, taken in time, can be slowed down or even stopped thanks to specific medicines and hygienic measures.
This year, the focus is on the link between obesity and impaired kidney function, with the motto “A healthy life for healthy kidneys”. A symposium open to the general public will take place at the National Academy of Medicine in Paris on March 9. It will bring together many learned societies and associations to try to stop the progression of chronic kidney disease, which should increase by 17% in ten years according to the World Health Organization.
