We use WhatsApp every day these days, but we do not use all the functions that the chat program has to offer. PlusOnline selects eight relatively unknown, but very useful functions.
1. Add activity directly to your calendar
“Let’s meet on November 11 at 3 p.m.” You may have noticed that in this case the date and time in the WhatsApp chat is displayed as a clickable link when you receive or send such a message. That has a useful function. If you click on the link, it is possible to put the appointment directly in the agenda of your phone. Press the link and then choose ‘Create Activity’.
2. Star messages
To quickly find messages with important information, you can mark them with a star. Click on the message you want to mark until a pop-up screen appears. Choose ‘starmark’.
To find the messages with a star, do the following on Android:
- Open whatsapp.
- Tap the at the top right three dots.
- Tap on Starred messages.
With an iPhone it works like this:
- Go to the chat that contains the starred message.
- Click on the name of the person you’re chatting with at the top.
- Go to ‘Starred messages‘.
3. Make words bold and italicized
Did you know that you can bold and italicize words and phrases in WhatsApp? It is also possible to strike out words with a dash. You put the text you want to adjust between codes and then send it.
4. Convenient and Fast Mailing Lists
Invite some people for your birthday? You can of course copy, paste and send your typed message ten times, but there is also a faster method. With a ‘sending list’ you can send one message to a lot of people at once in just a few clicks. This is how it works on an iPhone:
- Open WhatsApp.
- At the top left of your most recent chat, click mailing lists.
- Select the people you want to send the message to.
- Click on ‘create’ and send the message.
Android? Then it works like this:
- Open WhatsApp.
- Click on the at the top right three dots.
- Click on ‘New mailing list‘.
- Select the desired recipients.
- Write your message and click send.
5. Adjust emoji skin color
Not necessarily a useful tip, but a nice one. Some emojis allow you to change the skin color. It’s very simple: long press the emoji. You will then see several options appear on the screen. Click on one and send the message.
6. Add unique notification tone by contact or group
With some people you want to respond as quickly as possible and with group apps you may feel that urge a lot less. Did you know you can add a specific notification tone to a person or group app? To do this, click on the name or group app and go to contact information. Then click on ‘custom sound’.
7. Swipe to answer
In a group app, the many messages often pile up quickly. Do you want to respond to a question someone asked in the app a while back? Then you can do that in a handy way, so that everyone in the app immediately understands what you are responding to. In the chat, go to the message you want to respond to and swipe your finger over the message to the right. Then type your response and send the message.
8. Send gif
You can not only send text messages with WhatsApp but also images, for example a gif. A gif or gif is a moving picture. This allows you to pass on a certain emotion or message, for example on a birthday. WhatsApp contains a collection of gifs that you can use for this. You’re looking for an appropriate gif.
