Photographer Alan Lawrence had fun portraying his 18-month-old son, William, who suffers from Trisomy 21.
Wil can do anything and even fly!
His message: “Wil can fly!” (Wil can fly, in English). And on the series of photomontages, the little boy is indeed levitating! Nothing stops it and we can even see, in some images, the little blond head in the forest, in the mountains, in the snow …
When the parents learned that their son had Trisomy 21, they were scared at first. Yet “in 17 months with us, he has made our family grow in a way we never suspected,” says Alan Lawrence.
How did the idea of the flying baby come to the father of five? Quite simply because William spends his time rolling over on his stomach and wagging his feet backwards, as if he were trying to fly. Thanks to digital retouching, Alan made his son a superhero, a wizard or even a little bird with a blond hair during everyday scenes with the rest of the family.
Half of the proceeds donated to foundations dedicated to Down’s Syndrome
The photographer posted his photos on Instagram and the images quickly began to travel around the Internet. Faced with the success of his photos, Alan decided to set up a project on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter, Bringing light.
His goal: to make and sell calendars of his flying child and to take a three-week trip to the eastern United States to photograph Wil in places like the Grand Canyon or Joshua Tree National Park.
Half of the proceeds will be donated to foundations dedicated to trisomy. On April 26, the father collected nearly 13,000 euros.
