The mania of biting your nails, also called onychophagia, concerns approximately 1 in 3 French people and can cause permanent damage. Corn why do we bite our nails ?
According to a study commissioned from SEPREM Etudes (1) by a brand of anti onychophagia treatment, the number one reason why we bite our nails is work (at 26%).
The panel also responded in large numbers the purchasing power and the children. Further on come the economic situation, love affairs, parents and the urge to smoke.
According to another study (2) published last year in the Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry, people impatient, who get bored quickly or who easily feel frustration are most often prone to this kind of behavior.
The study also shows that it is perfectionism which is often the cause of onychophagia and other similar problems (such as trichotillomania for example).
