The French Federation of Cardiology presented its first White Paper “For a heart plan” on Friday. Supported by many players, it contains 50 recommendations around seven axes.
A real roadmap for actions to be taken, the first White Paper “For a Heart Plan” initiated by the French Federation of Cardiology (FFC) was officially handed over to health decision-makers (1) this Friday, October 17. It is the first step in a process for a national strategy to fight cardiovascular disease. The heart health of the French is indeed far from satisfactory.
Insufficient support in France
In a press release published on Friday, Prof. Claude Le Feuvre, President of the FFC confided: “With 400 deaths per day in France, 2.2 million patients with long-term illness, 20 million people at cardiovascular risk, 28 billion euros in annual expenditure, cardiovascular diseases, qualified by the WHO as the next global epidemic, do not have the care they deserve. ”
For this specialist, “the fight against these diseases comes up against major difficulties in France: the inequality between the patients marked by strong disparities on the territory, the insufficiency of the social support of many heart patients, the upsurge cardiovascular diseases, women, these forgotten people, for whom cardiovascular diseases represent the leading cause of death in France. “
A plan around 7 main axes
So, to remedy this worrying state of affairs, a project was carried out by 21 large organizations, networks of professionals, and more than 500,000 patients affected by these pathologies. A “White Paper” was thus drawn up during the General Meetings organized for more than two years. All these actors have jointly developed a national policy to fight against cardiovascular diseases based on 7 main axes: better respond to emergencies, support cardiac patients in rehabilitation, fight against inequalities in care, facilitate administrative procedures for congenital heart patients, reintegrate after illness, develop a priority health research policy cardiovascular and improve prevention systems. And in the end, concrete proposals meant to improve the situation emerged.
Initiation to life saving actions in primary schools
Among the proposals, promote the installation of defibrillators in public places (shops, businesses, areas far from hospitals), and training in their use in the poorest or most remote areas.
Another recommends identifying women at risk of cardiovascular disease and offering them appropriate care, in particular during the three key phases, contraception, pregnancy and menopause.
Finally, the FFC recalls that it is crucial to train the general public to recognize the warning signs of infarction and stroke and to apply the law providing for initiation into life-saving gestures in primary schools.
