The popular messaging service WhatsApp has announced that the company is rolling out emoji responses to its app. But what exactly are those reactions?
When you send a message to someone on WhatsApp, you may not receive a text message back. Instead, you get a single emoji, in the form of a heart, thumbs up, or smiley face.
One emoji reaction resembles that. But instead of sending a separate message, you give an emoji to an already sent message from a contact. This way you can still respond to a message, but in a different way.
Emoji Reactions on WhatsApp
The emoji reactions come to all users, regardless of the operating system you are using. So it doesn’t matter whether you have Android or iOS on your smartphone. When exactly that will happen is not yet entirely clear. But the release will take place “soon”.
Initially it is a limited release. You will soon have a choice of six emoji with which you can respond. Think of the thumbs up, the heart, a smiley that cries with laughter, a surprised smiley, a crying smiley and a praying emoji.
The praying emoji shows two hands pressed together and is often used to indicate that you strongly agree with something.
In the future, the emoji will support more skin tones. Furthermore, you will soon be able to send larger files (up to 2 GB, instead of 100 MB) and that up to 32 people can participate in a group conversation (instead of a maximum of eight).
