Read the package inserts!
Many Dutch people are concerned about the composition of the vaccines against the Mexican flu. In the Netherlands, this concerns the vaccines Focetria (Novartis) and Pandemrix (GlaxoSmithKline). But what exactly is in these vaccines?
There is a whole process that precedes before a vaccine is put into use. Look for all the ingredients and the specific known side effects of the different vaccines in the package leaflets. On the website flupandemic.nl you will find the most frequently asked questions about the vaccines.

Mercury
Thiomersal is converted into a mercury compound that is completely excreted by the body. This is different from the mercury found in thermometers or in fish. It has been used for decades in vaccines to prevent contamination with bacteria, because it is precisely this contamination that leads to illness and death.
When more and more attention was paid to mercury compounds in many products, it was decided from 2001 to omit thiomersal from vaccines. Because more and more separate packaging was introduced (1 dose per syringe), bacterial contamination was no longer an issue.
The fact that it has now been added again is because the pandemic vaccines consist of packages from which multiple doses are prepared. This was chosen for logistical considerations and from the point of view of faster delivery.
