A new American study, published in the Journal of sexual medicine, reveals that men’s sexual activity remains significant, even at age 70 or 80. According to this work of Americans aged 57 to 85, 68% of men in this age group still have sex, and over 72% still have a strong interest in sex. Their main concern is erection problems, ahead of performance anxiety.
Conducted with 1,550 women and 1,455 men, the survey reveals that only 42% of women report having had sex in the year preceding the survey. 43.3% say they are no longer interested in sex, and 23% no longer find pleasure in it.
According to the authors of the study, the state of physical health, mental health, and the couple’s relationship are the main factors that determine the quality of sex life.
This survey, which shows once again that men have a longer sex life than women, recalls recent Swedish work, published in the British medical journal.
Carried out among 1,506 heterosexuals aged 70, they revealed that the proportion of 70-year-old men, married or living with a partner, and having an active sex life, rose from 52% in 1971 to 68% in 2001. 31% of sexually active men in 2001, single or married, had sex at least once a week, compared to only 10% in 1971.
