This therapy considers the spine as a real “nervous information highway” which allows the good circulation of the vital impulse, essential for the functioning of all the systems of our body. But the slightest stress, physical or psychological, can create little pressure on the nerves. This is what the chiropractor calls “vertebral subluxations”. The vertebrae are then less mobile and block the good circulation of the vital impulse. Result: the muscles contract, pain is felt in the back but also at a distance.
To overcome these vertebral subluxations and restore the right vital flow, the chiropractor resorts to two types of gesture:
Spinal manipulation: a unique, brief, dry gesture, carried out at the level of the joint in order to restore its mobility. We say “forced” manipulation because it pushes the joint beyond its usual limits (while remaining within anatomical limits of course) so that it regains its optimal function.
Mobilization: a slower movement of greater amplitude, sometimes performed in an oscillating manner. The goal is to gain the joint’s range of motion, but also to stretch the soft tissues.
To prepare the handling, the chiropractor can use physiotherapy: application of heat or cold, ultrasound.
What are its applications?
She is interested in all the mechanical pathologies of the neuro-musculoskeletal system, in particular those of the spine, and their consequences. Also chiropractic could improve and relieve low back pain, sciatica, lumbago, stiff neck, various neuralgia, headaches of cervical origin, dizziness, hip pain, joint disorders …
