Not just a man thing
Wet dreams make a little uncomfortable. They are something to be ashamed of. Especially when you consider who you dreamed about that night. But actually wet dreams are very natural.
A wet dream is an ejaculation during sleep. Such a nocturnal ejaculation usually has nothing to do with sexual thoughts or dreams; it’s just a biological reflex.
Also women
A large proportion of men will have a wet dream at some point in their lives. It is especially common in younger men. About one in ten guys get their very first orgasm in their sleep. But it doesn’t necessarily have to end after puberty.
There are men who regularly still have wet dreams. Women can also have a wet dream. But they don’t wake up with the ‘evidence’ in their underwear. They do get a little more vaginal discharge.
To dream
Wet dreams occur during REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. This is the sleep phase where you have very vivid dreams. All kinds of unconscious bodily functions are stimulated in this phase. Your heart rate and breathing speed up. Extra blood flows to the brain and to the erectile tissues in the penis or vagina.
These are normal physical reactions. The subject of your dream does not have to be the reason you cum. Maybe you just dreamed about a bike ride. Or about someone you don’t find attractive. Then you don’t have to worry that you are unconsciously in love with that person.
Your body’s response
There’s very little you can do about wet dreams. It’s your body’s response, just like the hiccups. There seems to be some evidence that people who have a lot of sex or masturbate a lot have fewer wet dreams. But it is mainly a biological phenomenon that can happen to anyone during their sleep.
