A compact VW ID for the near future
Nice, such ID.3 and ID.4, but maybe you are one of the many people who are eager for a compact electric city car. And VW has little to offer in that category, apart from the aging e-Up. That will change by 2025, the brand promises us. As a foretaste, they are showing this Volkswagen ID Life to the world today.
The ID Life, which could just be called ID.1 in production form, is fully geared to young buyers, according to VW. People for whom it is ‘not only about mobility, but above all about what you can do with a car’. The Volkswagen ID Life therefore has a multifunctional interior with, yes, a projection screen that rises from the dashboard. There is a built-in game console and you can stream movies and series from your smartphone.
Responsible concept
When you’re done gaming and want to drive, you can lift the roof off the Volkswagen ID Life. It is lightweight and, like the front cover, is made entirely of recycled PET bottles. We also find this material in the interior, plus responsible (FSC-certified) wood. The clear coat uses wood chips as a colorant. Even the concept car’s tires include bio-oil and rice husks.
Oh, you were curious about the technique? The ID Life is of course on Volkswagen’s MEB platform, although it makes use of front-wheel drive here for the first time. It has a fast-charging battery of 57 kWh (163 kilometers in 10 minutes) and can drive about 400 kilometers with it. And it drives smoothly: with 234 hp, it goes from 0 to 100 in 6.9 seconds.
When can I buy a Volkswagen ID Life?
As mentioned, VW’s compact city EV will not come until 2025, and it is not certain whether it will really resemble this Volkswagen ID Life. The brand does mention a price indication for the future model: you could get in from 20 to 25 mille. We wait it out quietly.
