Volkswagen presents the third member of its family of 100% electric vehicles at the Shanghai Motor Show. After ID.3 and ID.4, here is ID.6, a large SUV capable of offering up to 7 seats. This model which comes in two versions, X and Crozz, will be launched in China but could arrive in Europe.
[Mise à jour du 05/11/2021] Advertised as exclusive to China, the Volkswagen ID.6 could finally find its way to Europe. A source at the manufacturer told us that the arrival of the large electric SUV on the Old Continent was not excluded, and Business Insider reveals some additional details. The ID.6 is produced in China and Volkswagen is reportedly considering importing the vehicle into Europe from the Middle Kingdom, a first for the brand. “If a model is successful in one market, it is natural to explore its potential in other regions. Of course, this applies to ID.6“, would have revealed a spokesman. Up to 15,000 units per year could thus make the trip so far. Such a project would probably meet with an opposition of the German employees of Volkswagen. A production in Europe would not be out of question but could only be implemented in a second step.

TO READ. Volkswagen. Where are the models in the range manufactured?

The Volkswagen family is growing on the occasion of the Shanghai Motor Show! The ID range, dedicated to 100% electric models, includes a 3e model. After the ID.3 sedan and the ID.4 compact SUV, the German manufacturer is launching two large zero-emission SUVs. Their names: ID.6 X and ID.6 Crozz. They are strictly the same size, but not the same “face” as they are manufactured by two different Volkswagen partners.
ID.6 X or ID.6 Crozz: what are the differences?
The Crozz version is a little more adventurous with inserts in anodized aluminum way in the shields. The grille is made up of two chrome rectangles, running into the lights, on either side of the logo. The optics are compact and rounded in shape. Conversely, those of the ID.6 X are more imposing and go higher on the wings. The grille of this version includes just two short chrome bars. As for the shield, it accommodates larger (false) air intakes.

At the level of the stern, the two models inherit a luminous black band between the lights. It’s significantly wider on the ID.6 X and this has the effect of making the tailgate visually (too) loaded. The design of the rear optics is different between the two models as is the light signature. The license plate is significantly lower on the X model, while it sits just below the logo on the ID.6 Crozz. The latter seems to be the only one to benefit from chrome door handles and a two-tone roof.

On the other hand, in both cases, the SUVs clearly display their name and inherit a light-colored roof arch. They also fit the same 19 to 21 inch rims.
Maximum space and 7 seats on board
Both SUVs are built on the modular MEB platform. It is also used by other members of the ID family. With its ID.6, Volkswagen intends to offer XXL habitability and a functional environment. The ID.6 is 4.88m, which is 30cm longer than the ID.4. Thanks to a long wheelbase (2.97 m) and short overhangs, the manufacturer was able to add a third row of seats. The SUV can thus carry up to 7 passengers.

The bench seat in row 2 is sliding to offer more comfort. A large panoramic roof bathes the passenger compartment in light. It can be optional. The ID.6 has no physical buttons or switches on its dashboard. Most of the controls are controlled via the 12 ” touch screen or by voice with the voice assistant and the magic formula “Hello ID”. The driver can enjoy an augmented reality head-up display as on the ID.3 and ID.4. Many aids for partially automated driving are also on the menu.

Up to 600 km of autonomy for Chinese models
In the technical chapter, the Volkswagen ID.6 X and ID.6 Crozz can receive, in the floor, batteries of 58 kWh or 77 kWh. The announced autonomy is 436 km for the first and 588 km for the second, according to the China NEDC cycle. Three motorizations can be associated (see below). Buyers will be able to benefit from 4-wheel drive depending on the configuration chosen. For now, these family models are reserved for the Chinese market. With these SUVs, produced locally (in Anting and Foshang), Volkswagen aims to “become the most sought-after sustainable mobility brand in China”. By 2023, the manufacturer’s Chinese range will have eight ID models.
