The Volkswagen ID.5, an electric “coupe” SUV similar in size to the ID.4, starts at € 51,450 in France excluding the ecological bonus. More expensive than the ID.4, it competes with certain versions of the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y.
Volkswagen launches the ID.5 on the French market. This “coupé” alternative to the ID.4 electric SUV has a more upscale positioning than the latter, from which it only uses the most efficient powertrains. It displays almost identical dimensions, notably 4.60 m long.
The ID.5 starts at € 51,450 in the Pro version with a 77 kWh (net) accumulator and 174 hp rear engine, a combination not available on the ID.4. Its 204 hp Pro Performance variant equipped with the same battery requires 4 700 € more than the equivalent ID.4.
A Ford Mustang Mach-E is a little more accessible with a base price of € 48,990 for 76 kWh and 269 hp in propulsion, in return for a lower range with 440 km WLTP against 513 km for the ID.5 Pro and Pro Performance.
The ID.5 GTX against the competition
The Volkswagen ID.5 GTX, which tops the range with two engines providing together 299 hp and an all-wheel drive powered by the same 77 kWh battery, can withstand a load of 150 kW against 135 kW for less powerful models. Able to go from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.3 s and officially cover 489 km on a charge, the GTX is displayed € 57,950. It is :
- € 4,600 more than the ID.4 GTX with similar performance,
- € 1,450 more than a Ford Mustang Mach-E AWD of 269 hp and 76 kWh (0 to 100 km / h in 6.3 s; 400 km WLTP),
- € 2,000 cheaper than a Tesla Model Y Grande Autonomie Dual Motor (0 to 100 km / h in 5 s; 507 km WLTP)

The interior presentation of the Volkswagen ID.5 takes from the rest of the ID range a clear visual identity but also materials that one would expect more rewarding at this price level. The standard equipment of the electric SUV is however provided and includes in particular:

The GTX model has for him 20-inch rims, adaptive Matrix LED headlamps, specific shields with a more aggressive design as well as a black interior finish with red stitching which is exclusive to it.
Packaged options for the ID.5
The options offered for the Volkswagen ID.5 are divided into packs. Tri-zone air conditioning is, for example, part of the Comfort Plus pack (€ 450), while the heads-up display is integrated into the Infotainment Plus pack (€ 1,450). Park Assit Plus parking assistance capable of reproducing a stored maneuver, the motorized tailgate, “360 °” cameras and lane change assistance are combined in the Assistance Plus pack (€ 1,750). Note that even in the GTX version, it is necessary to opt for the optional Sport or Sport Plus packs billed respectively € 400 and € 1,300 to benefit from a firmer suspension (controlled or not depending on the pack) and variable assistance steering.
Volkswagen ID.5 prices (December 2021)
The Volkswagen ID.5 will not arrive in dealerships until the end of March 2022, but it can already be configured online. Its prices between € 45,000 and € 60,000 excluding options make it eligible for an ecological bonus of € 2,000 according to the scale in effect until June 30, 2022.
