More than a year after suspending orders, Volkswagen is gradually putting back the e-up! to its catalog in Europe. But beware of delivery times, the production rate of the model being low compared to demand. The starting price is set at €24,690, excluding bonuses.
Remember. During the winter of 2020-2021, Volkswagen, Skoda and Seat had stopped taking orders for their respective e-up!, Citigo e-iV and Mii Electric. The quotas planned for the year had already been reached, in particular thanks to the arrival of a larger capacity battery combined with a price drop for these three technically very similar electric city cars. The Volkswagen e-up! is now back in the catalog.
A certain success or a certain success?
Internationally, Volkswagen delivered around 41,500 e-up! in 2021 (including 1,621 copies in France). This figure is much lower than the more than 77,000 Renault Zoe delivered over the same period. However, the delivery times of the small German could go up to sixteen months after the registration of the order. Producing an electric car is expensive, which makes said vehicle hardly profitable if its selling price is low. It is therefore possible that Volkswagen will limit the production of the e-up!, probably sold at a loss, to quantities allowing it to reduce CO2 emissions.2 of its range up to a level that complies with the regulations. In Germany, the Volkswagen e-up! nevertheless met with some commercial success, ahead of the ID.3 and the Zoe to rank second best selling electric in 2021 behind the Tesla Model 3 with 30,800 units sold.

A unique configuration for the Volkswagen e-up!
The Volkswagen e-up! is available again in Germany, and the manufacturer plans to reopen the order book soon in other European countries. In France, the “zero emission” city car appears in the brand’s online configurator. It still has a 32.3 kWh lithium-ion battery and an 83 hp motor responsible for moving its 1,235 kg. Its technical sheet reports a range of 258 km in the WLTP cycle. Its standard equipment remains succinct, but it includes automatic air conditioning, hill start assistance and line crossing warning, among others. For automatic lights and wipers, cruise control and even alloy wheels, you have to dig into the options. The e-up! is offered at a price of €24,690, excluding the ecological bonus of €6,000. Nothing has been announced about a possible return of its more affordable “cousins” badged Skoda and Seat.
