December 14, 1999 – For several years now, some people have believed that vitamin E would reduce hot flashes during menopause. There are very few studies on this subject and one of them, carried out in 1997 on 120 postmenopausal women who had had breast cancer, failed to demonstrate a statistically significant effect of vitamin E. on the number of hot flashes, compared to a placebo.
However, a more recent study, reported by The American Institute for Cancer Research, mentions that a daily dose of 400 to 800 IU of vitamin E has reduced hot flashes by one per day, on average. It may therefore be useful to try it, as long as you are not taking anticoagulants at the same time, such as Coumadin or warfarin.
